The faster you will level up, then you have the better chance that you will be ahead of many players. It is Needless to say that you and your team members are getting more and more stronger and win all the missions/PvP. So you need XP.

Only my Elektra-EpicBoss mission gives me high XP, the rest remains easy as the normal missions!

Boss for chapter 9 mission 2 can give you xp 235 after you defeat him

Mission 12-2 is probably the most energy-efficient way of gaining both XP and CP; I've read that it pays over 500 XP for just 10 energy. I am still not able to do that one, though, since I've only recruited 20 heroes. However, until you're able to get to chapter 12, the most efficient one I've found is 10-6, because you only do high danger missions, and the XP for the boss is extremely high.
In mission 10-6 you can do 2 high danger missions with 6 enemies for 180 xp per mission, then one mission with 5 enemies for 110 xp, then the boss (Elektra)for 365 xp, total 835 XP for 40 energy. Plus, it has a lot of deploys, so you get some free stuff every time, too.
